OMG! We're back again!

Backstreet's back!.... And so is my blog.

It’s hard to believe that this blog has been around for 10 years. During that time, it has had a few attempted reboots.

So, why try again?

Since starting this blog, I have certainly grown and shifted locations and roles; moving from classroom teacher, teaching ICT (Digital Technologies), leading teaching and now into my current role as an assistant principal. I noticed that there is an abundance of resources online for teachers, but resources for school leaders and principal class were quite limited and often US or UK focused. With the multitude and breadth of tasks school leaders often face, I hope that I can share some of my experiences, approaches, challenges and resources I have used with the aim that it will help to support others in similar positions to working smarter and save time reinventing the same wheel. I want to be able to give back to the profession and the system by sharing what I have learnt and create resources and materials that didn’t exist or I couldn’t find when I needed them.

The challenges that I mentioned back then are still challenges for me now. I continue to struggle as a writer. Whilst I happily consume content and draw knowledge and ideas from others, I think as I’ve gotten older, I’ve also become a little more cautious and hesitant in putting my ideas out there. However, the only way we improve is by taking small steps each day. I hope that this can be a vehicle to improve my own writing.

I also hope that I can use this as a reflective tool; to document my own practice and ideas at a particular moment in time. In restarting this blog, it has been an interesting experience to read back over old posts to see my thoughts at that particular point in time and more importantly, how that has either shifted, remained true, or reminded me of an experience I had has a teacher that I hoped to remember when I became a school leader and was charged with the responsibility of making similar decisions.

By subscribing, you will get an email each time I publish a new post. Over time, I am also hoping to grow my email list and send out updates on what I’m working on at the moment. I hope that this will support other school leaders in their work and perhaps prevent some tasks and jobs from slipping through the cracks.

If the thought of another email in your inbox is not for you, I'll be sharing posts online on my Facebook Page.

Part of deciding to get back into writing was ensuring that I had enough to say. Whilst I have developed a long list of post ideas, I'd love to know what you would like to read more about.

What challenges are you facing? What is something you'd love to know more about or get help with?

Post your question in the comment section below.

If you're not comfortable posting online for all to see, you can also contact me at mail[at]sduncan0101.com (just replace the [at] with the @ symbol)

Wishing you all an awesome and amazing year ahead and I look forward to sharing more and (re)connecting with you in 2020!
